Newsletter ~ Jan - April 2010
Merry Christmas and Happy 2010!
Well, here we are another year gone by. Good grief, didn't we just turn the corner on the century? Hope this new year will be a good one for all of us.
Thanks to all of you who attend our concerts at the Music Hall. We have had some wonderful shows with some very special guests, and we appreciate your enthusiasm and loyalty. The boys and I keep working on new tunes to share with you, and we hope you can all continue to enjoy our concerts.
Speaking of concerts, our annual Fiddlefest is scheduled this year for February 13, and we are happy to have Jim Chancellor (aka Texas Shorty) join us. Jim is a wonderful old-time fiddler from south of the Red River and we go back a long way. We used to contest against each other when we were kids. Returning for this show are the kids from Rockin' Acoustic Circus, the Hunt boys , the Pendleton sisters, and several of Jim and Greg's students.. This is always a very popular show and tickets go fast. Make your reservations early!
We had a terrific bluegrass festival this October, and next year looks to be another super line-up for you. I have some good artists lined up so mark your calendars for 9/30-10/2. Get your tickets early and save some money.
Beginning in January, our Music Hall shows will start at 7:30pm. Maybe this will get us home a little earlier, not keep us up so late, especially us younger kids!
We now have the capability to put our shows on DVDs for anyone who requests them. If you have friends or family who enjoy our brand of music but live too far to come regularly, or if you are particularly fond of one of our shows and would enjoy seeing it over again, we would be happy to make DVD copies for you.
Always keep looking on our website for updates and new happenings. We don't want you to miss anything. ALERT New show time: 7:30pm
DISCOUNT TICKETS
We are continuing the offer for bargain tickets, 8 shows for $66.00 ($132 per couple). That’s $8.00 per show ($10 for the Fiddlefest) January through April and the privilege of selecting your reserved seat. The schedule on the reverse lists these shows with an asterix. The tickets will be ready to buy by the time you read this. Remember it is first-come first-served for the seat selection, and we hold your seat for you only until show time.
Western Swing
These annual shows have become so popular with us and with you that we decided to repeat the event again. Put May 8th on your calendar now to join Leon Rausch, some of the Texas Playboys, and our triple fiddles in some of your favorite tunes from the Bob Wills era. There is plenty of room for listening and dancing at Logan Co. Fairgrounds, so round up your friends and neighbors for a really fun evening.

INSTRUMENTS AT THE SHOP
We ave lots of new and vintage instruments at the Fiddle Shop; new guitars, fiddles, mandolins and banjos. Now that school is beginning again, get your string instrument here --- we will make sure it is set up and ready to go.
GUITARS : I’ve added some nice older guitars, and have probably the best selection I've had in years. Come in and check them out before they are gone.Epiphones,a Fender Telecaster, an Artist Les Paul Gibson, and several really good sounding flat-tops from Blueridge, Johnson, Revival and Alvarez. A Martin HD28, some nice arch tops: Gibson Talfarlow, ES5 Switchmaster, all at great prices. And an original 1980's Dobro.
VIOLINS, VIOLAS, BOWS :
I still have one of the best selections of fiddles to be found, We have great bargains on Italian, French, German, American and Chinese fiddles, and now we are happy to show and sell the violins of Lucas Wronski. You must see and play his violins. Check the website to see and hear them. I have some wonderful 18th and 19th century violins from all over the world, and several entry-level violins starting at $150. If you are looking for a good deal in a fiddle or bow, cases and all violin accessories, come in and we’ll help you out with something.
MANDOLINS :
I have some dandys in stock! Weber Yellowstone, Gibson Fern, Kristufek, Eastmans, Collings, and an A-5 signed by Charlie Darrington. We also have a solid walnut Mando clock built by Joe Fisher, a local musician and furniture builder. He also built the solid walnut “guitar” rocker in my Fiddle Shop. He will make you one upon request.
BANJOS :
We still have a good selection of new and used banjos. I just picked up another old Gibson, late ‘20s or early ‘30s, TB-1 with a 5 string neck, really nice. Just acquired: a late 60's RB250 Gibson 5 string, which sounds really good for about $2000. Also have 2 old tenor Gibsons from the ‘20s or ‘30s, plus Ridge, RB-3 Gibson and Kristufek banjos from the Czech Republic which are very, very nice. We can also get you started on some nice entry-level instruments.
MISC :
You can find all kinds of accessories at the shop: tuners, straps, picks, rosin, strings, capos, pick-ups, chin rests, shoulder rests, pitch pipes, books on how to play, DVDs and CDs of the band and solo CDs.
