Merry Christmas & Happy 2012!Here we go to 2012! This will have to be a better year --- record cold and hot! We had it all, even a major shaker. Our band had fun traveling to California, New Mexico, Kansas, etc., well, just all over it seems like. We released two new CDs, the band's Runaway, and my tribute to my early employer and the Father of Bluegrass, Thanks,Bill Monroe. I am working on a bunch more songs for another album, and Jane Frost is helping me write an autobiography. No telling how long that might take, but we're moving quickly.
Thanks to all of you who attend our Music Hall shows. We always have fun and you never know who is going to show up, or not. If you have friends or family who enjoy our brand of music but live too far to come regularly, we would be happy to put our show (or shows) on a DVD for anyone who requests them. If you are particularly fond of one of our shows and would enjoy seeing it over again, just let us know --- we'll make you a DVD copy.
We are having our popular Fiddlefest, February 25th. I hope to have a bunch of good fiddlers again this year. It is always a fantastic show that you won't want to miss. We usually fill up the Music Hall, so make your reservations early.
The date for our Western Swing evening has been set at May 19 --- again at the Logan Co. Fairgrounds, and Leon Rausch has again agreed to be our star vocalist. Put that date on your calendar now, so you don't forget.
The bluegrass festival went well this year, with the great weather being the star performer. Undoubtedly the best we've ever had, and the Gatlin Brothers were so gracious to volunteer their special talents. Thanks to all the bands, committee members and volunteers which made such a successful, smooth-running event. Next years dates are Oct. 4 – 6, with Joe Diffie agreeing to headline. In addition the Kruger Bros. And the Quebe Sisters are returning. You can already get your early-bird tickets by calling the OIBF office: 405-282-4446.
Keep in touch with us by going to our website: www.doublestop.com. There are lots of things to see, do and hear, and find out where we are going next.
We now have the capability to put our shows on DVDs for anyone who requests them. If you have friends or family who enjoy our brand of music but live too far to come regularly, or if you are particularly fond of one of our shows and would enjoy seeing it over again, we would be happy to make DVD copies for you.
Check out our
Out & About schedule and see if your or your distant friends and family would like to make one of our away shows. We always enjoy seeing our friends when we're away from home!
Be sure and drop by the shop to see some of our nice instruments, or just to say hello. You never know who will be in here jamming!
Special Guest ConcertThe Gibson Brothers Bluegrass Band will be appearing at the Music Hall, Friday, March 2nd. Eric and Leigh grew up in upstate New York where their primary activities were milking cows and playing baseball. There were always instruments in the house, but no one played them. Then, at 11 and 12, their dad told them there was a guy teaching music down at Dick's Country Store. They picked up a banjo and guitar and began their love of music. They are widely considered one of the finest brother duets in our music. They write many of their songs, and have just released their 10th album. The brothers' band was in Guthrie in 2008 and 2009 for the Int'l Bluegrass Festival, and we are delighted to have them here again. Concert is Friday evening March 2, at 7:30, tickets are $15, and advance reservations suggested. For more information their website is:

INSTRUMENTS AT THE SHOPOur website now includes videos of the instruments, so you can both see them and hear how they sound.
GUITARS :You must come in and check out our large selection of accoustic guitars. I'm always getting old stuff to put on the racks. It irritates me to go into a music store and all you see is new Chinese guitars hanging there. I have some of those too, but also some older Martins, Gibsons, Epiphones and Collings are here and ready to be played.
VIOLINS, VIOLAS, BOWS :We have the biggest and best selection of anyone around these parts, and now we are happy to show and sell the violins of Lucas Wronski. I'm always trading and buying fiddles – just picked up a Roth on my last trip. Check the website to see and hear them. We also have violas, cellos and basses. If you are looking for a good deal in a fiddle or bow, cases or accessories, come in and we’ll help you out with something.
MANDOLINS :I have new and used Gibsons, Kristufeks, Kentuckys, Webers, The Loar, Eastman, Kay, Fender, Savannah, and an old Martin mandolin that sounds great!
BANJOS :We have a good selection of new and used banjos from entry level to quality Gibsons, which includes several 5 strings and 3 old tenors, a must-have for your collection. We also have a Recording King, a Flint Hill, and two 6-string banjos. Too many to mention – all priced to fit your budget.
MISC :You can find all kinds of accessories at the shop: tuners, straps, picks, rosin, strings, capos, pick-ups, chin rests, shoulder rests, pitch pipes, books on how to play, DVDs and CDs of the band and solo CDs.
