The Byron Berline Band had two gigs scheduled the weekend of June 12-13 in Northwest Oklahoma. I didn't see any sense in driving back and forth twice, so I called Tony Moore in Tulsa and arranged, at his invitation, to spend the evening with him then play a round of golf at his club in Tulsa the following morning. The band played a small town festival in Sperry Saturday evening, right downtown on Main street. Then I drove to the home of Tony and Jan in nearby Tulsa. Sunday morning we went out to the Meadowbrook Golf Club for, hopefully, a nice round of golf. Now, I've been played golf for 37 years, and a golfers most coveted prize has always eluded me. No way was I expecting this to be my day! Tony and I were on the 5th tee, a 120 yd. par three. I felt particularly stiff, so I took a few stretches before approaching my ball. Then I took my pitching wedge, lined up my shot and swung at the ball. It felt really good and solid when I hit it --- I knew it was a good shot. Tony and I watched the ball fly and land on the green. Then it rolled away. I asked Tony, joking of course, if he thought it went into the cup. He thought it had rolled off the back side of the green. When we got up to the green, we found the ball in the cup! Oh, my gosh! What a thrill! The rest of the round was a blur ... I had gotten MY HOLE IN ONE!!!
